Power Poetry is the first, and largest poetry website for young writers. The goal of the platform is to move users to action through empowered literacy. We are a digital community for poetry students who use innovative multimedia art as a tool for educational and social impact.

To date, we have engaged over 300,0000 poets, received over 135,000 poems from all 50 states and 175 countries, and mobilized 200,000 monthly active users to find the resources they need to write and share their stories with the world. . 

Reaching teens where they are... Their phones

Power Poetry makes it easy for teens to create poems on desktop or their mobile phones. Through their work with Power Writers, the teachers realized the nice leather poetry journals were left behind for mobile phones. Creating Power Poetry as a mobile first platform has been one of the keys to success for the platform.  

The Impact

In order to analyze the true impact of the program, Power Poetry worked with a 3rd party data agency - Sumall Foundation - to do deep data modeling of the user community. The results revealed that poets that reached and passed the 10 poem mark showed improved literacy demonstrated through their poetry. What was more exciting was that the literacy improvement rates were significantly higher in low income ZIP codes.
